Introducing the LP-10, the new specialized signal cable for tonearms by HARMONIC TECH from the United States.
The design and construction of a signal cable for the connection between a tonearm and a phono preamp differ significantly from regular signal cables.
There is a great deal of expertise involved in this process. The principle of a cartridge relies on the contact of the stylus with the grooves of the record, which generates vibrations. These vibrations are then converted into an analog electrical signal by the cartridge’s internal coils. Due to the extremely weak nature of the signal, standard cables with thicker conductors struggle to transmit such delicate signals, leading to potential signal loss. Therefore, specialized tonearm cables use finer conductors, typically AWG 24-26, to minimize signal loss during transmission.
Another important factor is the electrical inductance caused by the insulating material between conductors. Regular signal cables often employ PVC or PE materials, which have higher inductance values that can impact signal transmission. The ideal choice for minimizing inductance is air, but since air cannot be used as an insulating material, the LP-10 utilizes Teflon, which has the lowest inductance value among insulating materials other than air. Teflon is well-suited for use in tonearm cables.
In addition to the effects of inductance, the design of the shielding layer is another crucial factor. The LP-10 incorporates a combination of Mylar foil and high-purity acid-free copper mesh as its shielding layer, achieving 99.9% shielding effectiveness and greatly reducing interference from external electromagnetic waves. Furthermore, the positive and negative conductors are twisted together at a 45-degree angle to minimize mutual interference of magnetic fields, facilitating the transmission of weak signals.
In the world of vinyl records, different tonearms and cartridges possess their unique sonic characteristics. The LP-10 tonearm cable, in terms of sound tuning, emphasizes both the authenticity of analog reproduction and expressive capabilities. The sound signature is neutral and natural, devoid of coloration, effectively showcasing the inherent analog tonal qualities of the user’s tonearm and cartridge, ultimately delivering vibrant and lifelike musical performances.
